From our friends at the International Conference on Baptist Studies:

Summer 2021 Conference

The International Conference on Baptist Studies (ICOBS) is a triennial conference dedicated to the study of Baptist history and thought. Scholars from all over the world have been participating in ICOBS since our first conference at Oxford University in 1997. Our next ICOBS will be held virtually on July 21-23, 2021. The theme for the conference is “Baptists and Gender.” The host institution is North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina, USA. ICOBS is open to all scholars and students of Baptist history and thought. Graduate and postgraduate students are especially encouraged to participate. The cost for the conference will be $50.00 USD, plus a small processing fee. You can register at https://pheedloop.com/register/BaptistStudiesIX/attendee/.

The conference theme of Baptists and Gender will be approached in many ways in the plenary and short papers. The role of Baptist women in church and society, together with the various understandings of their proper sphere held by themselves and by men, will be a frequent topic. Likewise, conceptions of masculinity and the ways in which men were expected to behave as men will be addressed. Gender relations in church and society, including in marriage and education, will also loom large. A volume containing some of the papers will again be published after this ninth conference, to be co-edited by Melody Maxwell and Laine Scales.
